About Us

The Society of Power Engineers (india) is an NGO and a Professional Body established in 1945 in New Delhi under the umbrella of the Central Board of Irrigation and Power(CBI&P). The Chapters of SPE (I) were established in various cities of the country. The Vadodara Chapter of the SPE (I)was established on 3 rd October, 1996. This was possible due to the pioneering efforts made by Er N. Dinker – the then Member(Technical) of Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB), Er SM Takalkar, Er MM Nayak, Er SM Joshi, Er KS Dave, Er SR Shukla, Er DM Shah, Er MK Das and others.

More than 200 Engineers enrolled themselves as member on or before the date of inception. The membership has grown steadily over the years. The details of the growth is given in this site on other webpage.

The SPE (I) has been established with a sole aim of bringing power engineering fraternity in its fold by organizing seminars, workshops, symposiums etc. The activities are expanded to cover academy and industry as well.

The details of Aims and Objectives of SPE (I) are exhibited in this website on other webpage.

The Vadodara Chapter of SPE (I) has become a significant group of Power Engineers mostly hailing from the constituent entities of erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) after unbundling, i.e. Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO), Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL), Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL), Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL), Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The Vadodara Chapter has also a large Membership from Academic Institutions around the Vadodara City, Power equipment manufacturers, Construction Firms, Consulting Firms etc.

In addition, there are many Engineers who have enrolled themselves in an individual capacity. The Vadodara Chapter also enjoys the patronage of many organizations, who have also chosen to be an Institutional Members.

The members belong to all the disciplines of engineering.

The Chapter is regularly organizing monthly Lecture Sessions, Seminars, Symposiums, Workshops and Training Programs for the benefit of all the Members as well as Industries and Academic Institutions. Publication & distribution of information Journal, Workshop / Seminar, Group Discussion, Study Tour etc. are regular features of this Chapter.

The Vadodara Chapter also regularly publishes News Bulletin (Quarterly issues) giving information about the various important Workshops, Seminars etc. News of achievements by the members in the field of power is also covered in the bulletin. The chapter is having a Library for day-to-day use by the members and also an Information Centre regarding housing various publications of CBI & P, New Delhi.

By now the chapter has conducted numbers of Seminars and Workshops on different topics related to Design, Manufacturing and Testing of Equipment, Switchgears & Ancillaries of Thermal Power Plants, Transmission and Distribution of Power, Energy Conservation Techniques etc. All these Seminars and Workshops were a grand success with a participation of more than 200 expert Faculty Members, Prominent Power Technocrats of the country and Power Enthusiasts. The papers presented during these workshops have been compiled in the form of a proceedings and are available in the office of the Chapter.

More & more Seminars / Workshops are planned in the coming year. For this a separate bulletin will be issued by the SPE (I), Vadodara Chapter from time to time.

One of the important aims of the Chapter is to bridge the gap between Academy and Industry. This needs sufficient Training to the Final Year Students regarding the practices being followed by the Industries. The Chapter has an excellent pool of power engineers, who are always ready & eager to conduct Seminars & Workshops for the benefit of students. Study Tours and site visits are also conducted by the members of the Chapter for the benefit of students and the Teachers. These activities have helped the students in timely & better placements after passing out. The Chapter also organizes Seminars in other parts of the State for the benefit of Students and the Industries in remote places.

The Chapter has an elected body in the form of Executive Committee. In addition to it, every year members are co-opted by the Executive Committee to oversee & support the activities of the Chapter. This Committee is named as an Advisory Committee. Both the Committee members invariably meet once in a month to review the activities, management issues, finance / accounts data etc.

The Chapter believes in consistency in its activities for keeping the members in close association. This is achieved by means of monthly lecture sessions, seminars, workshops, students related activities, publication of house journal, Annual General Meeting, family gathering & spiritual lectures.
